Introduction

The following guide with explain how to add your exchange account to Thunderbird without the need for an add-on.

This method does not allow access to the CLLA address book. We recommend you add the university LDAP address book in its place. It may not have all CLLA contacts but it will have most university contacts.

  1. Under 'Create a new account' click 'Email'
    • Under 'Create a new account' click 'Email'

  2. Thunderbird will ask if you need a new email address.
    • Thunderbird will ask if you need a new email address.

    • Click 'Skip this and use my existing email.'

  3. Mail Account Setup
    • Mail Account Setup

    • Enter your name

    • Enter your email address as yourid@tamu.edu

    • Enter your university (Howdy) password

    • Click 'Continue'

    • Thunderbird will try and fail to find the correct account settings

  4. Account Settings
    • Account Settings

    • Enter exchange.tamu.edu for IMAP server hostname

    • Enter smtp-relay.tamu.edu for SMTP server hostname

    • Under SSL select SSL/TLS

    • Enter yourid@tamu.edu for Username

    • Click 'Re-test'

    • Reset the Authentication for the IMAP server to 'Normal password'

    • Click 'Done'

  5. Additional Folders
    • Additional Folders

    • If you use more than just your inbox folder they may not display initially

    • Right click on the name of your email account

    • Click 'Subscribe...'

  6. Select other folders you wish to view
    • Select other folders you wish to view

    • Place a check mark by folders you wish to view

    • Click 'Subscribe'

    • Click 'OK'
